Take two thick slices of Noonie's day old bread, smear Honey Cup honey mustard
liberally over both. Cover both slices with green leaf lettuce. Then on one slice only lay smoked turkey on the lettuce,
a tomato slice on the turkey and sprinkle it with shredded carrot. Then on the lay a slice of provolone cheese over the
carrot then a green pepper ring on top of the cheese. Sprikle with sprouts. Cover with the other slice, lettuce side down.
The letuce should be stuck to the bread with honey mustard so it doesn't fall off when you turn it upside down to cover the
sandwich. Slice sandwich in half with a knife. Wrap in tightly in plastic wrap. Use too much wrap. Tape on label. Tadaaa!
Weighs one pound. Costs Four Bucks.

Iraqi Refugees in Burlington
Thursday, December 11, 2008
Ken Picard has written a highly informative article about an important news story- The arrival of about 50 Iraqi refugees to Burlington. Read the story here.
To Jonas and Anonymous: Before you let your racism and xenophobia hang out, perhaps you should go back and re-read my story more closely. As you'll see, virtually all the Iraqi refugees I met and interviewed were targeted with torture and/or death because they cooperated, worked for or did business with the U.S. military. It's a disgrace that this is how you show gratitude to our allies in that country. No wonder much of that region of the world hates us.
Did you read my 1st comment? Do your homework. If you were to --by, say, reading ANYTHING I've posted here...you know like the first comment I made--you'd be able to figure out fairly quickly that it was a sarcastic comment, meant to point out how absurd the previous comment is. I posted that instead of saying something like:
"Yes, Burlington is home to terrorists, rednecks, small-minded bigots, media-poisoned provincials, ignorant and anonymous blog posters..." But, I didn't That wouldn't be civil. Lest I point fingers w/o actually knowing the person to whom such a comment is directed.
Hi Ken. Great piece In Seven Days. The Refugee Resettlement program is totally understaffed and in disarray. It's good that you're bringing attention to that. And Iraqi refugees should be given special consideration because it was America that turned them into refugees.
Jonas is a good egg. No need to lump him in with whoever this anonymous person is. I'm sure it was just an oversite.

Nice find, Haik.
It's difficult to think about refugees as those who are used to having servants and big houses. But, this is the mess we've made.
Lets hope good things happen for these folks. VT ain't home for them, but it can be a good place to hang out for a while.
